Finance & Strategy offers a dynamic workplace with a broad range of professional opportunities, including graduate positions in Risk Management, Group Finance, People and Culture and Information Technology (IT).

Working in our Finance area will equip you with broad business knowledge, technical skills and training as well as networking opportunities. We also offer training in our core financial systems and support through the CPA/CA program.

Our Group Risk area includes occupational health and safety and governance. A graduate position will offer you exposure to risk and compliance auditing as well as analysis and reporting.

Upstream - Oil and Gas

Via its joint venture partnership in the Australia Pacific LNG Project, Origin is the largest producer of coal seam gas (CSG) in Australia, supplying gas to our own power stations, as well as other commercial and retail customers across Queensland and for potential export as liquefied natural gas.

With exploration and production interests in a portfolio of conventional, non-conventional and geothermal energy projects, we offer a wide range of opportunities in both Australia and New Zealand and increasingly internationally. Our current production capacity is in excess of 400 terajoules equivalent per day.

We operate production facilities that deliver gas to domestic markets from our offshore Kupe gas field in New Zealand, our Yolla gas field in Bass Strait and our offshore Thylacine gas field in offshore Victoria.

We're offering a range of graduate positions, in the following areas:

  • Health and Safety: You'll have the ability to positively influence health and safety outcomes and gain exposure to the development and implementation of health and safety requirements as part of our overall business strategy. 
  • Technical: With exposure to a broad range of mechanical engineering issues across our business, you'll have the ability to practically apply your skills and knowledge to produce engineering deliverables that ensure safety, reliability and equipment that is fit for purpose. 
  • Drilling: You'll receive exposure to drilling and completion and work over operations, including planning and executing a program of work that extends to managing contractors and suppliers. 
  • Petroleum Engineering: You'll have the opportunity to build your knowledge in petroleum engineering and practically apply your skills while gaining exposure to simulation modelling and assisting in the development and coordination of new well programs and field operations. 
  • Geologists: A graduate geologist/geophysicist position with us offers you the opportunity to further develop your technical knowledge and practically apply your skills with the support of industry leaders. You will be exposed to a broad range of projects across our national and international business and be given access to a range of geosciences specialisations as well as a deeper understanding of health and safety systems.

Energy Markets

As a leading energy retailer, we have more than 4.6 million customer accounts. We're also Australia's largest green energy provider with more than half a million GreenPower and green gas accounts. We're committed to delivering value to our customers by developing and securing competitive sources of energy and related products and services that better meet customers' energy needs. We provide LPG to more than 200,000 homes and businesses across Australia and throughout the Pacific region. As an LPG wholesaler, we own and operate seven seaboard terminals on the Australian east coast and are the major supplier of LPG in the Pacific.

We're also the largest owner and developer of gas-fired electricity generation in Australia and have a growing portfolio of power generation facilities, operating power stations across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria. Nearly all of our power stations are fuelled by natural gas, which produces less carbon emissions than a typical coal-fired power station.

We also have a 50 per cent interest in three co-generation plants and are committed to the development of longer term renewable energy solutions including:

  • Geothermal: We continue to invest in the research and development of Australia's world class hot rocks resource through a joint venture with Geodynamics. 
  • Solar: We provide customers with photovoltaic panels to generate solar energy and also recently established a joint venture with Micron Technology Inc in the United States to explore the further development and commercialisation of solar photovoltaic technology. 
  • Wind: In 2009, we completed our first wind farm at Cullerin Range in New South Wales. We're at various stages in the planning process for several more wind farms and have a total potential wind development portfolio of more than 3,400 MW.

  • Engineering: You'll be exposed to tri-generation projects and assist in the development and delivery of energy efficiency solutions. 
  • Marketing and strategy: We have a range of roles available in our marketing and strategy area including: B2B: Working with our B2B marketing team, you'll have the ability to develop your marketing skills across B2B channels, campaign management, business development and energy solutions teams. 
  • Pricing: You will build your knowledge, analytical capability and skills in pricing as well as marketing more broadly.
  • Product: You'll receive training, coaching and practical experience in product management as well as the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of the Retail business. 
  • Business analysis: You will gain exposure across our Retail Performance Management and Strategic Insights teams, developing your strong analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • Generation: We have graduate positions in both our Finance and Health, Safety and Environment teams.

Our Graduate Program

What we offer our graduate program is full time for three years, offering you the opportunity to develop competencies that are specific to your discipline. During your program, you’ll receive hands on experience coupled with mentoring and a structured professional development plan. Some disciplines also provide rotation opportunities and sponsorship of professional accreditation. At the end of your program, we offer permanent graduate positions that could mean a long and rewarding career with us well beyond your graduate program.

Our framework usually begins in January or February, with flexibility for those who would like to start earlier. We commence with a welcome week in March, where more than 60 of our new graduates get together with leaders from across our business. This is a great opportunity to meet your peers, make new friends and create some strong networks across our diverse business.

  • The flexibility to spend time working on site at field locations (where relevant). There may also be the opportunity to relocate, so you’ll need to be open to this as a possibility.

Next steps

If you’re interested in applying for a graduate position with us, the first step is to find out more about the different areas of our business on our website to help you decide which area you would like to apply for. You’ll then need to complete an online application form.

The next step in the process will be to conduct some online testing followed by a short telephone discussion, where you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions. Successful candidates will then be invited to our Assessment Centre, which will include a series of group activities.

The final stage will be an interview with the hiring manager for your area and a member of our recruitment team. You’ll have time to ask questions about Origin, our program and find out anything else you might like to know. We plan to have verbal offers to candidates by the end of the first week in May.
