About Us
GE works
Every day, all around Australia and New Zealand, we’re at work helping our customers take on the toughest challenges.
GE works on things that matter. Great people and advanced technologies working together in energy, water, healthcare, transportation, aviation and finance. We put our imagination to work developing solutions to help move, power, cure and build A&NZ in unique ways and surprising places.
GE has been part of the local landscape since the 1890s. We provided the infrastructure for Brisbane’s tramway and installed the electric motors that still power Sydney’s Pyrmont Bridge. Today GE in Australia and New Zealand employs around 6,000 people and operates through several businesses servicing a vast array of diverse markets and customers.
Not just imagining. Doing. GE works.
Our history
GE traces its beginnings to Thomas A. Edison, who established Edison Electric Light Company in 1878. In 1892, a merger of Edison General Electric Company and Thomson- Houston Electric Company created General Electric Company. GE is the only company listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Index today that was also included in the original index in 1896.
Our people
We’re passionate about solving tough challenges with new ideas and technologies. Today, GE employs over 300, 000 people in more than 150 countries around the world, including 40,000 in the Asia-Pacific region. People are our greatest asset and we employ people with jobs that range from biochemists to finance specialists to wind energy engineers.
Jeffrey R. Immelt is GE's Chairman and CEO and has been named one of the "World's Best CEOs" three times by Barron's.
Our culture
At GE, we consider our culture to be among our innovations. Over decades our leaders have built GE’s culture into what it is today – a place for creating and bringing big ideas to life. Today, that culture is the unifying force for our many business units around the world.
Our standards of excellence and commitment to absolute integrity have made GE a respected name around the globe. In 2012, GE Australia was ranked 7th in The Australian Financial Review Boss Magazine’s listing of Most Respected Companies.
