So, what's in it for you?

Our Graduate Development Program runs for 10 months from February until November 2010 and offers exciting learning and development opportunities to give you a leg up to a successful career in the Australian Public Service.

Your placement with the Department will include:

  • A familiarisation day before you start so you can get to know Canberra, the Department and your fellow graduates; 
  • A structured learning and development program including a range of courses and workshops; 
  • Graduate orientation session to give you the heads up about working life in the Department; 
  • Mentoring by a senior manager so you get the feedback and direction you need to make the most of your opportunities and to build a plan to achieve your goals. You'll also be partnered with a former graduate who can show you the ropes and help you settle into Canberra
  • An industry tour, 100 per cent planned by you, to check out the Department's work in the real world; 
  • Three work rotations in areas such as policy development, project management, planning, research and analysis, communications, preparing financial statements, regulatory reform, or contract management.

Graduate Benefits

The current package is $47 176 plus generous super. In addition, financial support is available to those moving to Canberra.

  • A structured learning and development program. 
  • A mentor and buddy to guide and discuss your work, opportunities and aspirations. 

Career Progression

Graduates begin their career in the Department as APS level 3 employees. They remain on this level and are on probation, for the duration of the Graduate Development Program. Once they have successfully completed the Graduate Program, they progress to an APS level 4 and are then eligible to apply for different positions and promotions within the Department.

 

 

Training & Development Opportunities

Graduates participate in formal learning experiences such as training courses as well as other tours and activities. Graduates will undertake a Diploma of Government through the Australian Public Service Commission (APS) and upon successful completion of the Graduate Program will be awarded a Diploma.
