The Department actively manages the Australian Government’s priorities for:
the National Broadband Network
regional telecommunications
the switchover to digital television
cyber-safety and security
broadcasting
communications
spectrum management
digital innovation
a range of consumer issues relevant to empowering consumers of broadband, telecommunication and online services.
As well as providing the Australian Government with economic, legal and policy advice on these ever-evolving areas, the Department administers regulations, funding, programs and support and other incentives to industry and the wider community.
Our Graduate Program
The Department has a generalist Graduate Program that accepts graduates from all disciplines. Ideal graduates will have strong conceptual and analytical abilities, effective communication skills, sound research and team work skills, initiative and an interest in information technology and communications issues.
Features of the program include:
A thorough orientation program
Three work placements of 15 weeks duration
A comprehensive training schedule, covering a number of core modules
The opportunity to contribute to policy development, program management and administration
A quality mentoring and buddy program
All graduate positions are located in Canberra and reasonable costs of relocation are met by the Department.

Applications for the 2011 Graduate Program are expected to open on 11 March 2010 and close on 26 April 2010.
To be eligible to apply you need to meet the following criteria:
Completion of a Bachelor's Degree by February 2011
Australian Citizenship, or have permanent residency and currently being considered for citizenship
Be prepared to relocate to Canberra in late January 2011 if you are offered a position
