Hey, do you know of any construction companies that would be interested in taking on a student studying a diploma in building and construction? i'm lookin for some real work rather than just labouring etc

Hi Shragi,
Thanks for the post! Construction companies are a little bit of a tough nut to crack sometimes, and many of them have now just closed there summer vacation construction programs. Did you apply to any of these and when do you graduate?

i graduate next year, i'm halfway through my course at RMIT with straight HD's so far, i havn't applied to anyone but rather wondering if you can suggest a starting point?!?

Most of the vacational work programs have closed applications as of a month or two ago. My suggestion would be to look at the construction companies that may be interested in an adhoc vacationer. Many of the big, but also some of the smaller ones would probably have adhoc positions available, especially if the construction industry comes out of its decline in the next few months.
I would simply find ones I am interested in working for and then give them a call and ask if they are doing anything with vacation work. If they are, ask if its worth while applying, if they are not, then ask if they know of any other companies that are.
After a few calls you should have an idea about where to go.
Hope that helps, it can be hard to pick up the phone, but its the most effective way.
